Chandipur
The state of Orissa has a long coastline of over 480-kms on the Bay of Bengal interspersed by lovely beaches, vast hinterland of antiquities and holy shrines. Chandipur is one such lovely place whose popular beach is dotted with magnificent casuarinas trees and sand dunes. Unlike other beaches, the sea water here recedes away from the shore line about five kms twice a day, an unusual phenomenon, rarely found anywhere. Another spellbinding sight is the disappearance of the sea and eventual swaying back at rhythmic pace at regular intervals. It is said that at other places of its kind, the waters wait for the visitors but here the visitors have to wait for the waters. Its mesmerizing charm is further uplifted by the presence of small red crabs and shells. One has to stay a day to enjoy Chandipur’s beauty.

Hardly 2 kms away is Balaramgadi where the river Budhabalang meets the sea. A trip through the mouth of the meandering river on a fisherman's boat and watching the fishermen cast their nets and pull their catch of fish is a delightful experience.
