Gangtok Overview
Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, is a unique hill resort of northeast India and undoubtedly one of the most oft-visited ones. Information for Foreigners
Sikkim, being a border state, requires foreign tourists to acquire a 15-day permit known as the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit the state. This can be obtained on producing 2- photographs along with copies of your passport and Indian visa at the Sikkim’s entry point, Rangpo. The permit can be extended thrice to allow you to completely enjoy your experience of Sikkim.
Weather
Gangtok is naturally blessed with a refreshing cool and pleasant climatic condition through out the year. The average temperature of the days hover around 18 degrees centigrade all the year round.
Early April to last of May is the summer session when the hill station sports a sunny appearance and the maximum temperature in Gangtok is recorded 22˚C during this period.
The Rainy season begins in June and stretches till early September marked by heavy downpour and landslides. July receives the highest rainfall with a record of 5000mm.
Winter sets in October and remains till April. The hill station recorded the minimum temperature in December and January when the temperature goes down to 2˚C. Snowfall is mostly found on the upper part of the hill town.
September to early December is the best time to visit the hill station as the temperature remains balmy.
